Contact: Fife Ranger Service (West Team) The reserve has artificial lagoons built from ash from Longannet Power Station, along with mudflats, a restored archaeological site, and the ruins of one of Scotland's earliest industrial estates.
3. Cockenzie Power Station Tel: 01875 810075 A guided tour of the station can include a visit to the nearby ash lagoons, where over 70 hectares (173 acres) of reclaimed land has been made available for recreational purposes.
4. Cruachan Power Station Tel: 01866 822618 The world's first high-head reversible pumped storage scheme, Cruachan was constructed 1 km underground in a granite cavern. An exhibition explains all about function and construction through computer imagery and touch-screen technology.
5. Galloway Hydros Scheme Tel: 01644 430238 Galloway Hydros Visitor Centre is situated in Tongland Power Station, near Kirkcudbright. A visit includes a guided tour of the power station and a journey to the impressive Tongland Dam and Reservoir. |
