Schools can use a special classroom during their visit to this coal-fired facility. A nature trail incorporates woodland, wildflower meadows, ponds, and lagoons, which offer a range of wildlife habitats.

The centre provides an interactive learning experience based on the National Curriculum, building on the success of the station's electricity roadshows, through which children learn how electricity works and how to use it safely.

The reserve consists of 10 hectares of brackish lagoon, with small islands covered by saltmarsh vegetation. A field studies centre provides educational facilities.
