1. Rhode Generating Station (Peat), Rhode, Co. Offaly. Located in the northeastern corner of Co. Offaly, 16 miles from Mullingar, the station is a popular attraction for school tours and organised groups.

4. Aghada Generating Station (Gas), Aghada is one of Ireland's largest electricity generating facilities. Fuelled by natural gas, it was commissioned in 1980 at a cost of £100 million.

Since the discovery of natural gas off the Cork coast in 1978, it has operated as a natural gas-fired, combined cycle combustion turbine plant. 6. Tarbert Generating Station Tarbert is the country's largest oil-fired station and has been producing electricity since 1969. 7. Moneypoint Generating Station (Coal), Moneypoint is Ireland's biggest electricity generation station, constructed at a cost of more than £700m. The station operates almost exclusively on coal, making it unique in the context of Irish electricity production.
8. Shannonbridge Generating Station (Peat), Shannonbridge is the largest ESB peat station in the country. It is situated on the banks of the River Shannon, 16 miles south of Athlone and close to the historic centre of Clonfert.
9. Lanesboro Generating Station (Peat), Located on the east bank of the River Shannon at the north end of Lough Ree, Lanesboro station is considered to be the most cost-effective and efficient peat-fired electricity generating station in Ireland. |
